Disco & Funk

History and origins

Funk developed from soul and rhythm and blues with a strong emphasis on rhythm. Disco grew within seventies dance-floor culture, bringing together steady beats, bright arrangements and a shared social experience.

Musical characteristics

In funk, bass and drums interact through syncopation, rhythm guitar and horns. Disco often favours a regular pulse, enriched by strings, backing vocals and infectious basslines.

A world to discover

Distinct but related musical languages, both have influenced house, pop and hip-hop. Their common thread is groove: the musical movement that makes you follow the rhythm.
