Dance & House

History and origins

Dance puts rhythm at the centre: a broad family of music made for dancing, including electronic productions and club sounds. House emerged in Chicago clubs in the eighties, building on disco through drum machines, basslines and sampling.

Musical characteristics

A steady four-on-the-floor kick, pulsing bass and repeating rhythmic patterns create a continuous flow. Vocals, piano and synthesizers can give tracks a melodic, energetic or atmospheric character.

A world to discover

Deep house, soulful house, vocal house, tech house and progressive house show the variety of this world. Dance and house share a focus on movement, but they are not interchangeable terms.
